The ROI of your calls!
I was making my usual new business development calls this morning and my little girl who is five was working on the computer nearby. Suddenly she looked up and said “why daddy you make “loads” of calls?!” So I said “that if Daddy does this it will make money and we can buy the things we need or want!” “I see” she said and went back to her computer.
It reminded me of a recent presentation I made to a local business club when one of the attendees came up at the end and said you are absolutely right, I think cold calling is great because I know if I make so many calls I will get £2000 and sometimes I can achieve this with 20calls. That means that each time I pick up the phone it is worth £100! I read recently in a software publication where the editor was talking about one cold call leading to a £2million pound deal. When I was training at a software company in Boston US, one of thes senior sales people said he saw the phone like a one armed bandit ie he invested so much in a number of calls and then ching ching ching a big jack pot would arrive; this would be the lead which would ultimately lead to a very high $value deal.
